BATTLE OF ALBERTA

The first playoff series in 31 years to take place between the Calgary Flames and the Edmonton Oilers provided the backdrop for the first Annual Representative Assembly (ARA) in three years to take place in person. ARA unfolded in downtown Calgary over the May long weekend and teacher delegates weren’t shy about displaying their playoff allegiance. Several delegates shared their thoughts on ARA along with their prediction for the series (which was tied 1-1 at the time).

“ARA, giving up your weekend, is about service — service for the Association and service for the members that we represent, and I’m happy to do it.”
Matthew Kierstead (centre)
Black Gold Teachers’ Local No. 8

“It’s a lot of information, but I’m finding it to be educational and quite enjoyable and interesting to learn the inner workings of everything.”

“I wish all of my colleagues would be able to experience [ARA] at least once.”
